Visit to the Olympic Park

Jonathon Edwards and Claire Maddocks

We were recently invited to take part in a press visit  where we were one of five representatives from the West Midlands to join Dave Moorcroft OBE and Jonathon Edwards, Olympic Triple Jump Gold medallist and Deputy Chair of the London 2012's Nations and Regions Group for a special tour  around the Olympic Park site. It was truly inspiring to see the development of the site in progress and get a sense of the scale of the operation. The trip really connected the aspirations of people from the West Midlands region on their Olympic Journeys to the site of the Olympics itself. It was moving to meet both young Olympic hopefuls and one of the learners on the Sport Structures, Personal Best Programme who is aspiring to to be a Games Time volunteer. The trip gave a real sense of the many kinds of positive engagement across a range of sectors that the Olympic games offer to people across the country and reinforced the potential of our project to connect our local communities with the buzz of being part of the wider games.

Fantastic to read about this huge and exciting project! Very interesting to learn more about Imagineer, having been part of the Arts Alive team in the past. I really look forward to following how things develop. Good luck to all from Izzy!
